Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Over Two Years
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This marks the player's first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.
The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.
His counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to force a final set.
He defended four initial chances in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
